Demand from Russia Puts Türkiye in Second Place for New Year’s

Growing interest among Russian tourists in spending their New Year’s holiday in Türkiye has strengthened expectations for the winter season in Antalya and Alanya.

Türkiye has emerged as one of the leading destinations in Russian tourists’ overseas hotel bookings for the New Year period.

According to data from OneTwoTrip, Türkiye ranked second in hotel bookings for January. This preference also creates a noteworthy outlook for Antalya and Alanya, which welcome a significant number of Russian tourists during the winter months.

Shorter holidays, greater preference for comfort

Data from the Russia-based travel platform OneTwoTrip reveals not only destination preferences but also changes in holiday habits. Russian tourists are reportedly opting for shorter stays during the New Year period.

At the same time, interest in higher-priced and more comfortable hotel options has increased. A OneTwoTrip representative told RIA Novosti that although Russian tourists are taking shorter holidays, they have started allocating more of their budget to accommodation.

Türkiye ranks among the top three

Thailand ranked first in January hotel bookings, accounting for more than 14% of the total. Türkiye came second, followed by China in third place. The United Arab Emirates and Vietnam were also among the five countries receiving the highest number of bookings from Russian tourists.

A different outlook for Antalya and Alanya

Türkiye ranking second among Russian tourists’ overseas preferences during the New Year period highlights the importance of the winter season for Antalya as well. The region remains one of the main destinations in Türkiye preferred by visitors from the Russian market.

Alanya is also among the destinations attracting Russian tourists, particularly during the winter months. Increased demand during the New Year period is creating expectations of additional activity during the winter season for hotels and tourism businesses operating in the city.

Three countries stand out in demand alongside Türkiye

According to a OneTwoTrip representative, the most notable increases in New Year holiday demand were recorded in Türkiye, Egypt and New Zealand.

The fact that Russian tourists are beginning to make their holiday decisions earlier also makes the reservation performance of Türkiye’s tourism destinations increasingly important for the winter months following the New Year period.

Russia’s flight network reaches a wide range of destinations

Previous statements indicated that Russia’s international air transport network covers 37 countries across the Middle East, Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Africa.

The impact of demand from Russia is particularly noticeable in Antalya and Alanya. The increase in New Year bookings is also strengthening expectations for the winter season.
